Modernday Atrocities
Read MoreThis piece is about people telling you to act and dress in a certain way so that you will be considered pretty. The reality is that in order for one to be pretty they must be themselves and not what the others are telling them to be. The Silhouettes are society telling her what a great job she is doing but they are the ones that need to change, not her.
Just Until I Can Afford To Be Happy
This piece is about going into a job each day, a job that you hate, and putting in your smile. The subject goes into this wage slave job to provide for his family but he does this at the sacrifice of the time he could spend with them. He also wants to make his parents and friends admire him. The irony is they do admire him, and his family does not want his money as much as they want him. He will kill himself chasing the dream when it's right there waiting for him. The Silhouettes are his wife and kids on one side and his mom and dad along with his two best friends on the other.
Abuse. The difference between assault and abuse is the abuser cares for you. They cannot stand by and allow you to hurt yourself or them … so they make you stop ... this is how they fail to show love. He is a small man, his chest is a screaming face to show the internalized rage, and the hole in his head shows the mindless nature of the acts he performs. His legs form a point showing the precarious stance he has in his rationale. He hangs his head in shame because this is not a point of pride this is in fact a point of shame! The Silhouettes are all the people who object to what is happening but will not be bothered to help.
This is about over medicating our children. We often think that the good child is the child that is not seen or heard, but sometimes we have to see them to help them find their place. When we medicate we take away that possibility. While there are extreme circumstances where medications may be necessary, that should be a last resort and we must know the times when it is not an option. The Silhouettes are the Mom and Dad and the other side is the Doctor and Nurse.
This is about silencing one’s self and becoming a monster in the process. Her eyes are sewn shut and her she has painted on eyes to hide this fact. she is sewing up her mouth as well so she does not have the ability to talk about things that will cause conflict. Over time she begins to resent the people she is not talking to and her heart grows small and she begins to see herself as a doll or plaything of the people she is not expressing herself to. And it is in this process that she becomes the monster!
Rebuttal to Modernday Atrocities
Love. This is the goal. This is what we all desire in life. Someone or something that you can grow with. Something that is so much a part of you that you cannot tell where you end and they begin. The idea that you could be separated from them is to the point that the removal of them from you would change and damage you permanently, and it is something that you would never choose. The Silhouettes are gold and represent the external presence that drives the other and powers the others existence. This is the final piece in the Modernday atrocities, all of the other pieces are about how we fail to find this concept in life.
Compliance in relationships. Doing and saying things, to maintain unhealthy relationships. The words are thing that we say to each other to maintain said relationships. When you do this you are not showing love, you are showing a fear of being rejected. Your inability to show yourself to your significant other is done for them but in reality this is a failure to allow them to have love, because you will never requite it.
This piece is about having no Direction or Outlet in life. Relying on youth and Beauty to get you through. But this is a plot of land that slowly crumbles away. It is a depiction of the live fast and leave a pretty corpse society. The Tentacles are a representation of her potential. but she will not allow things close enough to allow that to grab ahold. The Silhouettes are the other members of her society cheering her on because they don't want to me alone or wrong
This piece is about picking and choosing the parts of your significant other and discarding the rest. The words are put together to drive forward from the reasons we do this to someone we supposedly love. This is done to not hurt them by your leaving but in reality this is a failure to allow them to have love, because you will never requite it.
